Crush on the One who is Worthy
I was trying to explain the name of this blog to my mom. She is the one person in this world (ok maybe my husband also) who I know will always tell me exactly what they think… Never one to spare my feelings, she said, “Crush is kind of an old word, maybe kids don’t use that word anymore to describe someone they like.“
So I asked my 11 year old, Malachi. After a long conversation about this one kid in his fourth grade class that thinks he might have a girlfriend, he said crush still works for that... Phew.
I googled the definition and according to Webster…
Crush : An intense and usually passing infatuation.
...But, I remember how I felt when I met my husband, and in the months following. That breathless anticipation of a letter or a phone call… that intense joy when I saw him or got to talk to him… and I think to my Jesus… and it’s the same. When I wake up in the morning and I think – oh good, I have an hour before I have to get anyone up! And I grab my Bible and dig in, or I get in the car and I get to listen to Jesus Image or the Upper Room worship on the way to my next appointment, or I just get to spend time talking with him… People around don’t understand …but why would they, unless they were introduced to Him.
And there is the dilemma… Some people say we don’t need a revival, we need repentance. Meaning we don’t need to sit and soak in worship for hours in the church, like they did at Asbury... we need to get outside the doors and minister to the community, preach the gospel, get people saved… but why is it one or the other? The people who went to Asbury went back home to their communities filled with the Peace of God and the fire continues to grow...
In my mind the more we worship, the more we learn, the more we are filled, the more likely we are to overflow… WHEREVER we go! People are passionate! We are built for love!
The people of the world are created with a God sized hole in them that they are searching to fill…They look at celebrities, they look at social media, movies, books, hobbies, friends…. And nothing satisfies. Nothing lasts. – hence the Webster definition of temporary infatuation… but something… someone actually... does fit and actually does last… 31 years for me and its only getting stronger.
Here is my prayer for you today… Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians in Ephesians 3:14-21
... for this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I ask that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Then you, being rooted and grounded in love, will have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend the length and width and height and depth of the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
